Fundraising events Nov. 5-6 at Indian River Colony Club, Viera

Family Promise of Brevard is on a mission: putting an end to the scourge of family homelessness in our county. Slug-A-Bug is happy to help fulfill this worthy goal.

That’s why we’re sponsors of the Golf Scramble and Helicopter Drop fundraising events on Nov. 5-6 at Indian River Colony Club in Viera.

The nonprofit organization collaborates with the community to help families at risk of being homeless. The resources and support that Family Promise offers these families helps fortify their long-term housing prospects.

The two-day golf event begins Friday, Nov. 5, with registration at 11 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 6, registration and a continental breakfast are at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.

The helicopter drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Nov. 6. Participants can buy one ball for $50, three for $100, six for $200 and nine for $300. A helicopter will drop all the balls at once and the one closest to the cup will win $5,000.

“This is a way that members of the community can take action against family homelessness,” said Steve Lum, Slug-A-Bug President. “There’s so much suffering connected to being out on the street, especially when it comes to children, and we’re happy to support such a great organization that works to alleviate this problem.”
