Winter is here, but you still should always be watching for ticks. Even during the colder months, this is one pest that requires our year-long vigilance.
Thanks to the subtropical Florida climate, ticks can be found here throughout the year. If you’re headed outside, particularly near an area with tall grass, protecting yourself from ticks is important.
If you think you might be headed to an area infested with these arachnids, keep your clothes buttoned and tucked in. You may want to put your pants in your boots, too. Make sure you’re wearing lightly colored clothing to spot those ticks more easily. Also, be sure to apply repellent every time you go out.
Check for ticks as soon as you come back in, too. Whether they’re on your dog or your leg, you need to remove them safely and immediately.
In addition to protecting yourself, you can also protect your property. Clear the brush along the pathways of your property. If you frequent a certain area, be sure you keep it as clear as possible.
