Slug-A-Bug is collecting non-perishable food items at its US 1 location until Nov. 30

Slug-A-Bug is making a difference by supporting the Second Harvest Food Bank, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to deliver life-saving services to families in need.

Brevard County is known for its beaches, vibrant culture and a strong sense of togetherness. Yet, behind the beauty and vitality of this region is a stark reality: food insecurity. Fortunately, the Second Harvest Food Bank is helping combat hunger and provide nourishment to those in need.

The face of hunger in Brevard County

Food insecurity is a nationwide issue and Brevard County is no exception. Many residents, including children and seniors, struggle to access enough nutritious food to lead a healthy life. The face of hunger may not always be visible, but it’s always in the shadows, affecting individuals and families from all walks of life.

A lifeline for the hungry

The Second Harvest Food Bank is a critical component of the fight against hunger in Brevard County. This non-profit organization, affiliated with Feeding America, is dedicated to sourcing, storing and distributing food to local food pantries, soup kitchens, and other community organizations. Their mission is simple but profound: to bridge the gap between surplus food and those who desperately need it.

Annual food drive

Slug-A-Bug is collecting non-perishable food items at US 1 location until Nov. 30One of the most significant events organized by Second Harvest is the annual food drive. This initiative gathers support from local businesses, schools, and residents to collect non-perishable food items and funds. The food drive serves as a reminder that, together, we can make a difference in the lives of those struggling with hunger.

How you can get involved

Donate non-perishable food: During the food drive, consider donating such non-perishable food items as canned goods, pasta rice and more.

Volunteer: Join the ranks of dedicated volunteers who help sort, pack and distribute food to partner agencies.

Financial support: Make a monetary donation to support Second Harvest’s ongoing initiatives.

Advocate: Raise awareness about hunger in Brevard County and advocate for policies that can alleviate food insecurity.

Slug-A-Bug is pleased to support the Second Harvest Food Bank. It’s part of our effort to help provide meals and hope to children and their families in need this holiday season. We are collecting non-perishable foods until Nov. 30 at our location on US 1 in Melbourne.
