It may be winter outside, but that doesn’t mean you can stop watching for ticks. Even in the winter, this is one pest that should still be on your radar.

Wait, Ticks? In the Winter?!?

Around the country, you may not have to worry about ticks in the winter. Brevard County pest control specialists, though, will tell you that here; you have to worry about them throughout the year. Thanks to the subtropical Florida climate, ticks can be found here throughout the year. So if you’re headed outside, particularly near a tall grassy area, protecting yourself from ticks is a must.

What Can I Do?

There are a number of ways to prevent tick problems. First, if you think you might be headed to an area that’s infested with ticks, keep your clothes buttoned and tucked in. You may want to put your pants in your boots, too. Second, make sure you’re wearing lightly colored clothing to easily spot those ticks. Finally, be sure to put repellent on every time you go out. Products containing DEET are the most effective.

Check for ticks as soon as you come back in, too. Whether they’re on your dog or your leg, you need to remove them safely and immediately.

In addition to protecting yourself, you can also protect your property. Clear the brush along the pathways of your property. If you frequent a certain area, be sure you keep it as clear as possible. Some added landscaping can mean tick-free zones on your property.
