When you learned about ants in school, you probably learned that you wouldn’t see them during the fall and winter. In a way, your science teacher was correct. Most types of ants are not active outside of their underground tunnels. However, in a way, your science teacher was wrong. In Florida, especially, there is one ant species which is active during the winter, they are actually known as the winter ants.
The winter ants are busy doing what ants do best, annoying us humans, when the temperatures are colder, even near freezing. They come out of their burrows from November to March. Then in March, the workers seal their underground nests up nice and tight and they don’t emerge again until the next fall.
So, if you thought that you could relax because it is becoming winter and the ants would go away and leave you alone, you need to think again. These ants will invade your home the same way that the ants do in warmer seasons. They will eat your crumbs and invite their friends in to feast on your goodies. So, make sure that you keep all of your food in plastic, airtight containers. Also, make sure that your pet’s food is safely stored in a plastic container.
If you don’t want these lovely little creatures in your home, then you just might want to put in a call to your pest control services specialist. They can guide you on things that you can do to prevent ants from coming inside your home during the winter. They can also provide you with necessary services, like spraying, to ensure that your food does not become ant food. If by chance, you already have ants invading your home, Slug-A-Bug can do what is necessary to remove them quickly and efficiently.
