A friend of ours loves to tell the story of how he became scared of spiders as a child. At first, he loved them. As a kid, he thought house spiders were fascinating. He loved watching one that crawled across his ceiling every day. One day, he noticed it was carrying an egg sac. He didn’t think of removing the spider from his room. He just kept watching it.
The Inevitable
He was a football card collector in those days. A few evenings later, he was going through his football cards and he noticed something wrong with his vision. Everything was…fuzzy. It was as if little dots were moving around. It took him a minute to realize he and his room were crawling with tiny, baby spiders. He ran out of there as quick as he could, and his father spent the next half hour vacuuming up spiders.
It’s no wonder: a spider’s egg sac can hold up to 1,000 eggs. Some spiders will even deposit multiple egg sacs. Many spiders will stay in the egg sac after hatching and only come out later, so those spiders may not have even been from the sac that he saw his favorite spider carrying.
Venomous Spiders
That’s not even the worst case scenario, although in his mind it felt like it at the time. There are a lot of poisonous spiders that can infest homes in Florida. Spider pest control and spider removal should be a regular facet of many Brevard County homes.
We boast the two most dangerous spiders in the United States, widows and recluses. We’ve got four species of widow spider, including the infamous Black Widow spider. Recluses are rarer. They aren’t native, but they are found nonetheless.
Most bites from either won’t kill you, but they will be very painful. Both these spiders only bite defensively, but we tell our friend’s story above to highlight that an infestation can quickly spin out of control. His baby house spiders were more of a nuisance than a danger, but if they’d hatched in an unoccupied room where no one noticed them, they could have quickly occupied all corners of the house.
Get Rid of Spiders
Black Widows lay between 200 and 900 eggs in each sac. The eggs hatch in about 30 days. In other words, a Black Widow infestation is truly dangerous. If you find spiders in your home you will want to get rid of them by calling a Brevard County pest control service like Slug-A-Bug as soon as possible.
Spider pest control is a necessity, as well as regular inspections for spiders and other pests – especially after the kind of rains we had this season. Rain and flooding push spiders indoors and create breeding conditions that mean a lot of additional insects for spiders to feed upon. It’s going to be a bad spider season for some time to come, so take advantage of inspections and spider removal services. Contact Slug-A-Bug today.
