Do bees fall into just a few species? Not really. There are 20,000 species of bees in the world. 4,000 of these call North America home. There are more than 300 species of bees in Florida. These range from bees that will try hard to avoid you to bees that will swarm and chase you for a quarter mile. This makes bee hive removal a safety issue for many families. How can you establish effective bee control for your property?
The Danger of Misidentifying Bees
Because there are so many bees, you may not be able to accurately assess the kind of bees on your property. Most bee stings are similar. Even killer bees, also called Africanized Honey Bees, don’t have a particularly bad sting. They’re dangerous for another reason.
The difference is that some bees will only respond to a nest disturbance with a few dozen bees that are hesitant to sting you. These will only follow you a hundred feet or so.
Killer bees will respond to a nest disturbance in the hundreds or even thousands. They are aggressive about stinging. They will pursue you a quarter mile, stinging the entire time. If you dive into water, they will hover above the water, waiting for you. If you hide in a shed, they will try to get in, or wait for you outside.
Consult a Bee Pest Control Specialist
Killer bees earn their name. They have killed fully grown, healthy adults, and are a particular risk to children, the elderly, and pets. They hide their nest well. Even if you can sprint a quarter mile quickly, have you ever tried to do that while your body is reacting to 200 bee stings? Killer bees are fast and aggressive. You will be stung multiple times very quickly before you even know you should run.
