The world needs these vital organizations to help endangered species, promote education
Our community is lucky to have such a vibrant attraction as the Brevard Zoo. We hope you and all our local families take advantage of this wonderful asset to our community that we’ve enjoyed since the doors opened in 1994.
The Brevard Zoo is a valued Slug-A-Bug customer that depends on us to meet its pest control needs. Our environmentally responsible services serve a vital function in a place where so many animals live. But we support this organization in many other ways as well. We encourage you to do the same, with both your contributions and patronage.
There are plenty of reasons the Brevard Zoo deserves our support. First, it’s a great form of entertainment, right in our backyard. Families can enjoy the zoo together and form lasting memories with their children.
It’s also a source of recreation. Added to the walking, sunshine and fresh air of the Brevard Zoo experience is another recreational activity: kayaking. No other zoo in the United States offers kayaking tours around the animal exhibits, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity. It’s a super-fun way to see the exhibits and get some exercise in the process.
Zoos are important because they bring to life animals we would never see in person. The live experience of observing a giraffe or a jaguar greatly transcends mere facsimiles in video or photos.
There are many other benefits associated with zoos. They’re an outstanding medium of education – not only about the animals themselves, but also about the need for ongoing conservation of endangered species. Our zoo is able to teach many children about the plight of our vanishing wildlife.
In fact, the zoos actually play a pivotal role in preserving animals that are currently in danger of extinction or facing a serious reduction in numbers. Some animals on the verge of extinction have populations that exist primarily in zoos. It’s crucial that their numbers continue within those protective institutions until the animals can be introduced back into the wild.
After this difficult time of national shutdown, people will undoubtedly be happy to once again visit the Brevard Zoo, which opened under new visitor guidelines on May 23. The temporary guidelines are available here.
The zoo holds special events throughout the year, too. For example, “Boo at the Zoo,” takes place around Halloween each year. The evening event includes treat stations, a haunted house, a costume contest and a ride on the “Boo Choo Train.” Slug-A-Bug has been an annual Boo at the Zoo premium sponsor for well over a decade.
This year’s gala fundraiser “Safari Under the Stars” is scheduled for Sept. 26 from 6 to 11 p.m. It will feature Jean-Michel Cousteau, French explorer, environmentalist and son of the famed Jacques Cousteau. Our donations support this event and the accompanying raffle.
You can learn more about Brevard Zoo events, such as the upcoming “Jazzoo” jazz concert (Nov. 7 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.), on the Special Events page of the zoo’s website.
Suffice it to say, there’s plenty of enjoyment for everybody at the Brevard Zoo. That’s why we at Slug-A-Bug continue to offer our support.
The Brevard Zoo is at 8225 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL. See you there!
