Members of the Slug-A-Bug team will undertake their first quarterly cleanup of the company’s adopted Spoil Island on Saturday, March 19.
The adoption of island BC47 and the cleanup are part of Slug-A-Bug’s efforts to help promote a clean, healthy environment in the community. It’s a collaborative work with the Spoil Island Project and the Friends of the Spoil Islands.
Spoil islands are human created, the result of dredging. There are about 100 of these dotting the Indian River in Brevard and Indian River counties, providing wonderful opportunities for fishing, camping and exploring. But there’s a problem, too: Many people leave behind trash while enjoying these recreational activities, which makes cleanups like this one necessary.
