Note: We love our Space Coast community. Brevard County has so much to offer: It’s truly a wonderful place to live, work and have fun. As part of our “Bug Hugs” community outreach initiative, we’d like to feature some of the interesting places, experiences, entertainment and recreational opportunities in our area.
Nestled in the heart of Brevard County lies a hidden gem known as Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village. Green Gables boasts a storied past that dates back to the early 19th century. Originally built in the late 1800s, the main house stands as a testament to Victorian architecture and elegance. This restored mansion invites visitors to step back in time and experience the grace and splendor of a bygone era.
A peaceful haven
One of the most remarkable aspects of Green Gables at Historic Riverview Village is its commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding area. The property spans several acres and features lush gardens, towering oak trees and a serene riverside view. The gardens offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, providing a peaceful haven for visitors to appreciate the wonders of nature.
Beyond its historical and natural allure, Green Gables plays a vital role in fostering a sense of community in Brevard County. The site hosts various events throughout the year, ranging from art exhibitions and cultural festivals to educational workshops and guided tours. These activities not only bring people together but also raise awareness about the importance of historic preservation.
Slug-A-Bug to the rescue
In 2016, Slug-A-Bug received a request to assess the condition of Green Gables and devise a plan to safeguard the structure and preserve its historical significance. Steve Lum, Slug-A-Bug president, personally engaged with a team of pest and termite control experts. During the inspection, they discovered evidence of subterranean and drywood termite infestation. Failing to address this issue would have posed a significant risk to the structure, leading to its probable deterioration. Slug-A-Bug took up the task and provided liquid treatment and a complete fumigation wrap, all free of charge, in order to protect the integrity of the building and preserve the rich heritage of Melbourne, Fla.
