Our Community
At Slug-A-Bug, we’re more than just pest control experts; we’re community builders. With every service, from pest control to lawn care, we invest in the well-being of our community.
Through active participation and generous donations, we invest in numerous local charities, making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. Choosing Slug-A-Bug means joining a partnership to protect, nurture, and uplift our community together.
Here are just some of the causes we support:
Friends of the Spoil Islands
Once a quarter, Slug-A-Bug employees pick up trash on the company’s “adopted” island in the Indian River. It’s part of the Spoil Island Project, set up by Friends of the Spoil Islands.
Derby Day
Slug-A-Bug has been pleased to support the annual Rockledge Rotary Foundation Space Coast Derby Day, a fun, Kentucky Derby-themed fundraiser. Derby Day coincides with the annual race in Churchill Downs. Beneficiaries of this fundraiser include the Salvation Army in Brevard and Crosswinds Youth Services.
Family Promise of Brevard
Slug-A-Bug sponsors fundraising events for the nonprofit organization Family Promise of Brevard. The group collaborates with the community to help families at risk of being homeless. Resources and support that Family Promise offers these struggling families can help strengthen their long-term housing prospects.
The Children's Hunger Project
Many children in Brevard County from low-income families receive free meals at school. But after the last class dismisses on Friday, many face a weekend without proper nutrition. The Children’s Hunger Project fills in this gap. Volunteers load backpacks with nutritious food and drinks that are easy to prepare and will last the students until Monday. Slug-A-Bug supports this effort by volunteering and providing monetary support.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren of Brevard County is a wonderful organization that Slug-A-Bug is pleased to support. The nonprofit provides education and emotional support for grandparents and the children they raise. Five support groups operate throughout the county. The organization also raises public awareness and advocates for those engaged in this important work.
Neighbor Up Brevard
Neighbor Up Brevard works with private- and public-sector entities to help revitalize communities that are suffering from poverty. Slug-A-Bug has been a sponsor of the group’s fundraising efforts over the years. Neighbor Up Brevard has been instrumental in such projects as the Greater Heights Apartment Complex and the Evans Center, which provides food, job training and healthcare to the community.
Nana's House
Slug-A-Bug makes monetary donations to Nana’s House and has been providing their pest control services free of charge since 2013. A group of children’s homes, Nana’s House provides a safe, nurturing place for children (from newborns up to age 11) who are currently without a safe place to live.
Habitat for Humanity
Supporting Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County is important to Slug-A-Bug, which is why we provide that local organization with free termite services. The nonprofit Christian ministry builds safe, affordable homes for low-income people unable to qualify for conventional mortgages. Recipients of the Habitat homes are required to put their own efforts into the construction if they are able. They are also responsible for making low monthly mortgage payments.
The Brevard Zoo
Our community is so fortunate to have the Brevard Zoo available as a source of learning and enjoyment for people of all ages. The zoo draws more than 400,000 visitors every year, about 44 percent from outside Brevard County. It offers a rare, firsthand connection to the diversity of animal life on our planet. Slug-A-Bug supports the Brevard Zoo's work by providing free pest control, rodent exclusion and termite pre-treatments.
