Florida has a big range of wildlife. We’ve got a little bit of everything here. Unfortunately, that includes the cockroach, too. There are four primary species to be concerned with when it comes to cockroach control. We’ll give you some facts about these cockroaches in Brevard County:

The American Cockroach

The American cockroach is a red-brown cockroach with black markings trailing from the head. It’s about 3 inches in length fully grown. These tend to live outdoors in areas that stay damp, but they’ll crawl into a suitable basement or garage if it’s humid enough for their tastes. Furthermore, there’s a lot of food and water indoors that draws them.

The German Cockroach

These cockroaches start off blackish and then become light brown as they get older. They like hitching a ride in boxes, paper bags and other items that you bring inside your home. Of the many species of roaches that can infest your home, the German Cockroach can be the most difficult to control and eliminate.

The Smokybrown Cockroach

The cockroach with the coolest name, the smokybrown is a dusty brown with a black head. Good flyers with a penchant for water, decayed plant material, and animal feces, these are a really good reason to make sure you clean up after your pets.

The Asian Cockroach

Very similar to the German cockroach, except the Asian Cockroaches are much better fliers. That’s just what you wanted to hear, right? They do tend to prefer it outside, unlike their American and German counterparts. You might find them in your garden, but they’re less likely to be in your home. If they do make it into your home, they’re drawn to light in a way other cockroaches aren’t. Instead of scurrying away, they’ll clamp onto TV screens.

Cockroaches are famous for their musty odor, which they use to communicate to each other. This means a cockroach infestation can quickly make your house smell awful.

Cockroach prevention begins with making sure to clean up after yourself when preparing a meal. Don’t leave crumbs out, wipe up anything sweet or sticky, and don’t leave water sitting out overnight.
