In Florida, termite control throughout the year is nothing short of an absolute must. It’s time to think about the coming winter. It’s time to think about devising a late Fall termite treatment plan. Why should Brevard residents worry about termites in the winter?

Why Doesn’t Florida Have a Termite Season?

Many states have a pretty set termite season. Florida, though, is different thanks to its warmer weather throughout the year. While you’re more likely to see swarms of termites in the spring after it rains, termites feed and reproduce throughout the fall and winter in Florida. In reality, their lifecycle means they can be active each and every season of the year, and that means they’re just as much a threat to your home right now as they are during any other season of the year.

Why Warm Weather?

Many people only associate termites with warm weather, and there’s a reason for that. They usually prefer to see daytime temperatures of around 70 degrees. The average high in Brevard County in December is 73 degrees, which makes this month just as much of a problem around here as any other month throughout the rest of the country.

Termites, no matter what the time of year in Florida, are looking for places where they can tunnel in and protect themselves. The warmer it is, the more eggs the queen can lay to help continually supply the colony with workers to chew through the wood of your home, your garage, or any other structure on your property.

What to Look For

If you have termite problems this time of year, you’re not likely to see the drywood termite swarms in the evenings that many blogs post about. Instead, you may find mounds of tiny fecal pellets or the insects’ wings inside the structure in which they’re inhabiting. You may also find wooden surfaces with blisters underneath them, showing that they’ve hollowed out the substance. Subterranean termites are most active from December to May. They’re looking for moisture, so they’ll infest wood from underneath the ground. You’ll find mud tubes if you’re infested with this type of termite. Tap the wood around the mud tube to see if it’s hollow, and if you hear that hollow sound, you can bet you have a pretty serious problem on your hands.

What are the Best Termite Treatments Florida Has to Offer?

Termidor is the single best way to go in the world of termite treatment. This professionally applied product is perfect for drywood or subterranean termites, and they can’t detect the substance. We’ll apply a liquid dilution along the foundation of your home to create a treatment zone. Then we’ll treat any other active areas of infestation to help ensure all of the termites come in contact with the substance. The treatment can last for some time, depending on the extent of the infestation, so once we tackle your termite problem, you’ll never have to face it again.
